Healthcare Employment Projections Indicate Job Growth of 30% or More

Healthcare careers continue to boost U.S. job growth and will do so into the foreseeable future. Healthcare employment is projected to grow by 31% or 4.6 million jobs over the next ten years, according to the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies.

Therapy Professions in High Demand

Occupational Therapy (OT) takes the top spot among therapy careers and is projected to grow by 33% or 36,400 jobs through to 2020. The median salary for OTs is $75,400 per year. Permanent and travel occupational therapist jobs are available nationwide in rehabilitation centers, hospitals, nursing homes, and home health service providers.

Demand for physical therapists (PT) continue to rise and is projected to grow by 39% or 77,400 jobs to 2020. With more patients entering the system through the Affordable Care act and an aging boomer demographic, physical therapists will continue to be in high demand. The median salary for PTs is $79,860 per annum. Permanent, travel, and temporary physical therapy jobs are available in rehabilitation centers, hospitals, and nursing homes nationwide.

Speech Language Pathologists (SLP) continues to experience strong demand in the U.S. job market with a projected growth rate of 23% or the addition of 28,800 jobs through 2020. Median salaries for a SLP is $69,870 and positions are available nationwide in schools and hospital systems.
